FAQs

  • Private equity refers to a form of investment in which funds are raised from institutional and high-net-worth investors to acquire or invest in private companies. These funds are managed by private equity firms, which use the capital to acquire ownership stakes in companies, often with the goal of improving their performance and ultimately selling them for a profit. Private equity investments can involve various strategies, such as leveraged buyouts (LBOs), venture capital, and growth capital, and they typically involve a longer investment horizon compared to public market investments.

  • Private equity offers various career paths for students, ranging from entry-level positions such as Analyst or Associate, involving financial analysis and due diligence, to mid-level roles like Principal or Director, where individuals contribute to deal sourcing and portfolio management. Senior roles like Partner or Managing Director focus on fund management and overall investment strategy. Additional avenues include roles in investor relations, operations and portfolio management, and exit planning and strategy. A background in finance, strong analytical skills, and a knack for assessing investment opportunities are typically essential for success in private equity careers.
