E-Week Kickoff

Come learn about all of the resources available on campus for aspiring student entrepreneurs and hear from successful student entrepreneurs from the past including:

  • Dave Bateman, founder of Property Solutions which is consistently listed on the Inc. 500 year after year;
  • Mick Hagen, founder of Zinch which sold to Chegg in 2011 and Undrip; and
  • Garrett Gee, founder of the hugely popular Scan mobile app. 

Be sure to attend to find out more about all the exciting events during the rest of the week and to pick up your E-WEEK PUNCH CARD for a chance to win big prizes! The first 200 in the door get a FREE T-SHIRT and PIZZA will be served to all who attend!

The Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology (CET) at BYU and Grow Utah Ventures are proud to host the second annual The EVENT -- Entrepreneur & Venture Ecosystem Networking nighT, the biggest entrepreneurial networking event in Utah!. The purpose of The EVENT is to showcase the resources available in the Utah entrepreneurial ecosystem to young, aspiring entrepreneurs and to bring everyone together -- a rising tide lifts all boats. Organizations from around the state will be represented at The EVENT and networking opportunities will abound. The CET will also be announcing the recipients of the fifty (50) $1,000 "Women in  Entrepreneurship & Technology" scholarships during The EVENT.

Mobile App Competition Kickoff

The Mobile App Competition, hosted by the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology at BYU, is a chance for you to:

  • showcase your already polished skills as a mobile app developer,
  • continue to hone your current skills, or
  • expand your repertoire into this popular space.

The competition is open to all the major mobile OS platforms. Be sure to attend to find out more information about how the competition is structured and to find other people to join your team.

Building the Perfect Team” Creating a Management Team & Advisory Board: Students should understand why is each important, how and who do you target when assembling them, what their responsibilities should be.

Majority ShareHow do you Divide Equity Between Partners? (criteria, vesting, cap tables, and early investors): Students should understand the importance of Equity, how it should be divided, distributed and evolve, and how to divide equity relative to the value returned to the venture.

Protecting your IdeaLegal, Intellectual Property, and Corporate Structures: Students should understand how to protect their idea, what legal action (if any) they need to take to protect their IP, what they should do legally in building teams and how to set up their corporate structures.

Quick Cash” Funding Entrepreneurial Ventures Today: Students should understand what options are realistically available to them to secure funding, what they need to do in advance to secure funding, what potential investors are looking for, and bootstrapping best practices.

Sell, Sell, Sell” Go-To-Market Strategies (Market Channels, Revenue Streams, and Business Development in a Startup): Students should understand how to focus their energies on taking the product to market, how to identify revenue streams and market channels and how to maximize revenue.

Miller NVC Big Idea Competition/ Investor Day

To kickoff the event a few of last year's teams will pitch their ventures to a group of investors followed by 60-second rapid fire idea pitches from this year's teams in the Big Idea Competition. $1,000 in cash is up for grabs and the audience will be voting to decide one of the winners. Be sure to attend to listen to this year's new crop of ideas!
